Limpid pools

This is Britt. Co owner of Portland Garment factory.

Another painting from Urban Weeds done from a black and white photograph. D and I spent all of sunday photographing the artwork in vintage settings and we were very happy with the results. I knew I wanted the vintage suitcases and typewriter. It was his idea to add the yarn to bring in a soft element and I believe it works!

All photography by Dhiraj D'Souza.

Painting portraits

This is Sarah.Owner of Lille Boutique

The above painting was done from a photograph from the Urban weeds: Portland Street Style blog. The photographer the immensely talented Lisa was kind enough to allow me to paint her stunning pictures and above was my first shot at painting a colored painting from a black and white photograph.

Sarah the model, owns a beautiful shop called Lille Boutique that deals in vintage lingerie and wedding gifts. You can see more of Sarah and Lisa's work in their links above.

Portraits

This is Rosa. She writes poetry.

Completed this painting on my wood panel I mentioned in an earlier post and liked the way the paint dried on it. The grain shows somewhat despite the three layers of gesso but I think it just adds to its overall effect. Enjoyed doing this portrait and have completed a few more after this. I have been sketching alot lately in charcoal and pastels. Will post some of those later.

Etsy Treasury

Woohoo - I got featured in an ETSY TREASURY. Click on below to see the adorable collection created by the talented WOOL CRAZY who makes decorations from recycled fibres.

(The painting of blushing turnips is mine)

What is an ETSY TREASURY?
TheTreasury is an etsy member-curated gallery of short-lived lists of 12 hand-picked items each. Members can feature their favorite items, items selected on a theme, or just whoever they like.

Click on www.etsy.com to see the other treasuries created.

This is the second time my work has been featured and I feel pretty honored. The painting from the first treasury which was themed "Pears" has sold.

Here's to the Crazy ones

The misfits.
The rebels.
The troublemakers.
The round pegs in the square holes.
The ones who see things differently.
They’re not fond of rules.
And they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.
Because they change things.
They push the human race forward.
And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Back in 1998 my old boss sent this to me saying the words 'fit' me. Today August 20, 2010 I came across it in another blog.....exactly 12 years later...........

It's amazing how others can see 'us' more clearly than we see ourselves.

To all the crazy ones...............
